Chocolate Cream Cheese Truffles

Cream Cheese Truffles

These truffles are in a word: divine. Much easier and less fussy than traditional truffles, they are still true to rich chocolate flavor and a delightful creamy center. I have made several cheater variations of truffles in the past and the result has always been so delicious that I don’t know if I’ll ever be brave enough to try the “real thing.” I love the fact that although these truffles have non-traditional ingredients (i.e. cream cheese), the dusting of cocoa powder makes them seem authentic. The recipe, from Coconut and Lime, is definitely going on my list of decadent treats to make often (because, seriously, who doesn’t need a decadent treat every day or two?).

Makes about 16 truffles (I doubled the recipe with great results)

INGREDIENTS:
1 3/4 cup confectioners’ sugar
4 ounces cream cheese, slightly softened
2 ounces unsweetened chocolate, melted

cocoa to roll

DIRECTIONS:
In a large bowl, beat together cream cheese and sugar. Add melted chocolate. Beat until well combined. Let chill in the refrigerater for 30 minutes (I found the mixture was too soft to roll right after beating the ingredients together). Using your fingers, roll the mixture into small balls (about 3/4-inch in diameter). Sprinkle about 1/3 cup of cocoa on a plate and gently roll the candy to coat. Place on a clean plate and serve. You can also wait a couple of hours and they will have a more solid texture (I chilled mine before serving).

Yum, thanks for reminding me of these. I’ve made them with peppermint extract–it’s an old Cooking Light recipe. Great for holiday gifts!

OK… I’m trying to lose the baby weight, not gain more!

These look divine. I’m sold on any combination of chocolate and cream cheese.

Oh, and I tried your Coconut chicken the other night and it was amazing@

I tried these as soon as I saw the recipe. They were simple and delicious and I ate almost the whole batch, however your Oreo truffles are still my all-time favorite.

These remind me of Oreo trufles…
Mix together:
1 pkg. regular Oreos, crushed (with filling and all)
8 oz. cream cheese
Roll into balls and dip in Almond Bark (white or chocolate).
These are very easy and SO GOOD too!

I adore truffles! I think these would be fantastic for a holiday treat tray, if I can keep myself frome eating all of them!

Oh Melanie, you are just killing me! I know I really shouldn’t make these, but how can I not?

Emily – I’m trying to lose baby weight, too…you can probably tell it isn’t going very well since I ate way too many of these truffles! I’m glad you liked the coconut chicken, by the way.

One question –

So I see you’ve been posting a lot of delicious looking treats lately and I’m just wondering, “HOW THE HECK DO YOU STAY SO THIN???!!” It’s truly amazing :-) It looks so good. I will have to try it sometime.

Mel, I’m glad you tried these and liked them…oh, and that I’m not the only one that ate almost the whole batch (although you are pregnant and can get away with it!).

You need to post a warning to us chocolate crazed folks out here! I normally don’t eat a lot of chocolate, but there are certain times when I could kill for a batch of these babies!
