I don’t have a lemon but i do have juice. Will the cookies be good if I leave out the zest?
I just found out I gotta go to a cookie exchange tomorrow!! I live way to far away from a store to go over a lemon! HELP!!

    Hi Mel!
How about a recipe category for “Mexican”? I would love that!

I have discovered your wonderful website and can’t wait to try your recipes. I have been hunting for a recipe for an Apple Shortbread Crumb Cake–this bakery confection was featured in a blog, but with no recipe. Shortbread on the bottom, cooked apples in the middle, then a crumb topping. Can anyone help?

I am obsessed with your blog and your recipes. Every one I’ve tried so far blows my mind! Have you ever found a decent recipe for Pad Thai? Every recipe I’ve tried is sub par and I’m not creative enough to experiment with them :( Desperate for your help…

Hi Mel-my sister lived by you and told me about your site. She had me try your “magic frosting” recipe and have been hooked ever since. I don’t get to cook as much as I would like, but when I do your site is the first I go to. Love that every recipe has a picture! Just wanted to say thanks!

    Dear Mel,
I stumbled onto your site through pinterest recently and I’m so happy I did! Thank you for the menu plans, fantastic recipes, and great ideas. The cheesecake stuffed strawberries I make yesterday didn’t last long! Once I noticed you made your own rolls for the meatball sandwiches, I knew I was right at home. My family has been enjoying the meals all week – after the slow cooker Maple Brown Sugar Ham, my husband never wants to eat ham cooked another way again. He even volunteered to clean up the kitchen after supper (so that he could “take care of the ham”, of course!). If you ever visit the coast of Maine, I hope you guys will come over to our house for supper!

I absolutely LOVE your blog! Haven’t tried anything that didn’t quickly become one of my family’s favorites. My husband and I are houseparents in a boy’s group home. This means that dinner includes 8 teenage boys every night.
Any hints for doubling or tripling recipes for soups and/or sauces? I can never get them to thicken correctly.

Hi Mel, I enjoy your site and your family adventures so much. I love your sense of humor, family stories, snapshot saturday so sweet. The recipes are so great, always delicious. I made the white bean chicken/turkey chili yesterday and it is wonderful. I doubled the recipe so we will eat on it all week, probably neighbors will also. I also added some frozen corn and carrots just for extra color and crunch. Thanks so much. P.S. Admire you and your husband’s perseverance in the frigid weather. We are so spoiled here, have lived in North Florida all my life. Take care

    Thank You

Hi! I just wanted to let you know that I discovered your website about a month ago and I absolutely love it! I have been so much more interested in cooking because everytime I try one of your recipes it turns out fabulous! My husband is appreciative as well! I have just one question for you – I tried out the sweet and sour chicken for the first time last night and it was a total success! It was delicious and my husband was floored as well. Is there any way to use less sugar in the sauce? Would it still turn out the same? Or is there a substitute? Thanks so much – and keep the recipes coming – I love reading everything!!

  20. Cara says:

Hi Mel. Love your blog! I check it several times a week and have never had one of your recipes fail. I just had a question related to Pintrest. When I “pin” one of your recipes, it takes me to your home page, instead of to the specific recipe. I then have to look through the recipe index. I was just wondering if there was a way of changing this.

  21. Mel says:

Hi Cara – I think the issue is that if you pin it from the homepage (like right now the full recipe on the homepage is Slow Cooker Tomato Basil Soup) it won’t pin the exact post – you need to actually click on the title for Slow Cooker Tomato Basil Soup that will take you to the permalink before you pin. Does that make sense? If you are on a specific recipe’s post, it should pin correctly. If you are still having issues, send me a specific example and I’ll look into it!

  22. Wendy says:

You’re the one recipe blogger / site I follow and our family loves your recipes. I no longer see an option for “Print with Picture.” Our family really loves those pictures – it helps the kids pick out which recipes they want to try that week when they look through the “Mel’s binders.” Reading the recipe is just not the same for them. Am I missing something or is this no longer an option?

  23. Lisa says:

Hey! I use your website on a daily basis. Love it! Just wondering if you have a whole wheat roll recipe you like or if you just do that with one of the recipes already posted. Thanks!

    Dear Mel,
About 6 months ago, one of my cousins posted on Facebook about how she was in a cooking slump and wanted some suggestions for good recipes. Someone recommended your website and I decided to check it out. Well, you have changed my life. I am 36 years old, have been married for 15 years, have 2 kids (11 and 8) and have never enjoyed cooking. Ever. My family ate out a lot, and we ate a lot of spaghetti with jarred sauce, hamburger helper and frozen pizza. Nothing I made ever tasted as good as eating out did and so it was hard for me to try new things since they never seemed to turn out right. That is until I found your website. Your recipes are amazing! My husband and kids rave over my cooking now and I agree that everything I’ve tried to make tastes fantastic. My parents visited in January and I cooked our favorite Mel’s meals for them while they visited. My mom was shocked at how well I cook compared to her last visit! I truly love to cook for my family now and I can honestly say that I never thought I would ever feel this way. Thank you so much. I am just so appreciative to you and your amazing blog for giving me the confidence and skills to become a wonderful cook! Anytime you’re in the DC area, look me up, you are more than welcome to stay with us :)

  25. Mel says:

Hi Francine – I’ve taken your old ( email address out of the database. Go ahead and resubscribe with your new email address. Thanks!

  26. Mel says:

So my neighbor tells me about a blog that her aunt LOVES and tells her to check it out who then recognizes you and your kiddos and passes the info along…WOW! I wondered if you guys moved as I saw a for sale sign when I was in your neighborhood and hadn’t seen you (but it was always hard bumping into each other after the lessons ended at the Y and I no longer drove to school). I had no idea you were such a fab, budget friendly, healthy conscious cook. Yay for you and your passion and your family! You will missed in De Pere now knowing I will not be bumping into you. :) Loved catching up with you over your blog! :) The other Mel

    Hey Mel,
I am trying to know a titch better how many calories I’m eating. (thanks to a cool app). I was wondering if you have that info attached to your recipes somewhere? I eat from your site like everyday!! Thanks

  28. Karen says:

Mel, I just tried sending you a nice, long email but it didn’t like your address. I just wanted to tell you how much of an impact you have made on my life. Thank you for teaching me to cook. You are making a difference and I thought you should know. Thank you!
