Honey Lime Fruit Salad
The best fruit salad ever! This honey lime fruit salad is so easy and delicious with just enough flair to make it feel extra-special.
This has been my go-to fruit salad for over a decade. It is a hit every time I serve it!
The hint of fresh lime and touch of honey take this fruit salad from basic to absolutely extraordinary.
How to Make Honey Lime Fruit Salad
If “throw all the fruit together in the bowl” isn’t detailed enough 😉, here are a few more steps to make the best fruit salad of your life.
- Add fruit to a medium serving bowl (more info on what fruit to use below!)
- Toss the zest of a fresh lime on top of the fruit.
- Drizzle a tablespoon or two of honey over everything.
- Toss to combine.
Why the honey? Even though fruit is already naturally sweet, adding a tiny bit of honey (also naturally sweet!) amplifies the fresh flavors of the fruit and compliments the pop of lime perfectly!
Best Fruit for Fruit Salad
For this recipe, I like to use:
- Strawberries
- Kiwi (green or golden!)
- Red or green grapes
- Fresh or canned pineapple chunks
- Canned mandarin oranges
This honey lime fruit salad recipe is super adaptable to other kinds of fruit. A few ideas for additions or substitutions: blueberries, cantaloupe or honeydew, mango, blackberries, apples, fresh peaches.
Firm fruits works better in fruit salad than soft fruits. I usually avoid using raspberries, watermelon, or other more tender/watery fruits.
A Few Notes
This delicious fruit salad is best served immediately. If you want to make it ahead of time, it’s best to serve it within 1-2 hours. The fruit will get a bit watery and the strawberries can discolor the other fruit if it sits too long.
Also, the honey/lime flavors can get diluted over time.
Poppy seeds are listed in the ingredient list, but they are optional. I add them about 56% of the time. And when I don’t, I kind of wish I had.
Finally, the lime zest adds a pop of incredible flavor, so don’t leave it out!
This easy fruit salad makes a fantastic side dish for just about any meal, and it is exceptional served in the summer when so many fresh fruits are at their peak of deliciousness.

Honey Lime Fruit Salad
Ingredients
- 1 (20-ounce) can pineapple chunks, drained well, or about 1 1/2 to 2 cups chopped fresh pineapple
- 1 (15-ounce) can mandarin oranges, drained well
- 2 to 3 ripe kiwi fruit, peeled and chopped into bite-size pieces
- 1 cup red or green grapes, halved
- 1 cup strawberries, hulled and quartered
- Zest from one lime, about 1/2 tablespoon
- 1 to 2 tablespoons honey
- ½ to 1 teaspoon poppy seeds (optional)
Instructions
- Combine the fruit in a serving bowl. Add the lime zest and toss.
- Drizzle the honey over the fruit and gently mix until the fruit is evenly coated. Sprinkle the poppy seeds on top, if using, and toss to combine.
- Serve immediately or refrigerate for 1-2 hours before serving (any longer and the fruit salad can get a bit watery and discolored from the strawberries).

I served this salad to a group of six. They all loved it. Two male guests (one a retired judge, the other a retired high-ranking naval officer) loved the dressing so much they tipped up the bowl and slurped up what had settled to the bottom! Best kind of compliment!

Can syrup be used instead of honey?
Sophie – you’ll have to experiment. I don’t know what kind of syrup you mean and I’ve always used honey but I’m sure this could be varied with good results.
loved this salad!. i too did without the kiwi. I had fresh pineapple on hand to use. my husband almost made me leave out the lime zest but he was glad he didn’t stop me. kid & hubby approved makes it a keeper in my book! thank you!
Mel, I made this for my nephews birthday party and we all enjoyed it. I left the poppy seeds out though. My mom who doesn’t like honey in the slightest ate it, said she’d eat honey this way only.
I made this for Easter and loved it! I usually don’t use a recipe for fruit salad because I think fruit was fabulous on its own but this was a great change for a fancier occasion.

Just got done making and eating this for Easter dinner. It was FANTASTIC! My store was out of kiwi and I forgot to pick up the mandarin oranges, so all I put in it was fresh pineapple, strawberries, and grapes. Both my sister and mom commented that they are definitely going to be making this recipe, too. Now I’m off to find a recipe that uses lime juice to use up the lime!
I love this salad and have made it many times and everyone always loves it…well, except a few kids who were a little freaked out by the poppy seeds. I don’t add kiwi because I don’t like it and wouldn’t know how to pick a ripe one anyway. But, I wanted to mention too that a few times, I haven’t had strawberries on hand, so I’ve used apples instead. Weird, I know, but still good. They don’t turn brown because of the pineapple juice I think, and we still love it!
I changed this recipe a bit and used raspberries in place of the strawberries but I think I would have liked the strawberries better. I also think it could have benefitted from sitting for awhile before eating so the flavors could meld. But, it was a nice sweet and fruity accompaniment to a savory meal. Thanks!
This was so tasty! I usually don’t like fruit salad but tried this with Thanksgiving dinner and it was a big hit. Both my 1 and 3 year old inhaled it which is always a bonus. The honey lime dressing is so simple and would be yummy on almost any fruit combination. This is a great potluck dish. Also, the leftovers don’t look pretty but they still taste great. I’m eating 3 day old leftovers as I type this and am enjoying every bite.

This is my favorite way to serve fresh fruit in the summer. But instead of poppy seeds, I add finely diced, fresh mint. It is AMAZING! You should try it with the mint!

My family loved this salad. I think I would like it better with fresh pineapple, since the canned ends up making the salad soggy in a hurry. Unfortunately I read the part about not preparing more than an hour before you serve it after I had prepared the salad at around 2 for a 7 o’clock dinner. Yum! I usually just use bananas mashed with honey or cover the berries in sugar and use that juice, but this looks Way better! Does it keep well in the fridge or should I add the dressing only just before serving?
Mandy – I would add the lime and honey right before serving – this isn’t one of those salads that keep terribly well, sadly.
I sampled a fruit salad with honey and lime juice in the grocery store last year and it was amazing! However, it also had some chopped fresh mint in it. I tried to make it at home, and it didn’t work out so well… I don’t know if the mint was just not good or something, but it kind of had a dirty taste to it, as if I hadn’t washed the mint and it was really dusty (it wasn’t and I did wash it!). Anyway, thanks for this – I think maybe I’ll try it again without the mint and see if it’s better! If you’re braver than me you could try it with mint though and tell us all if it’s good 🙂
