I refuse to believe that just because I’m a college student means that I’m going to be eating EasyMac or instant ramen noodles for the next four years!

  73. My mom, who is Korean, makes the BEST kalbi. But Korean’s don’t cook with cook books, they are taught from the generations before them. Living with a roommate that completely steers away from “fattening” things and sticks to a plain sandwich and low-fat ranch covered salad for dinner almost every night, I had to spice things up, being the foodie I am. She absolutely loves apple crisp, so within the last year, I’ve probably made around 30 different variations. Different apples, different cooking temps, different ingredients, different amounts. I can never seem to find one with the perfect tenderness of apples, perfect crispy, streusal-y topping, and the perfect autumny-sit-by-the-fire warmth that goes along with apple crisp. I too am carful about the books I choose to buy and keep in my precious kitchen space. Once I found your excellent food site, it became my go-to. I feel that I think and make decisions about food things so much like you, I imagine I will love every recipe that you do. So far, so good. And you’re eclectic in your tastes, so I haven’t been disappointed very many times in looking for a specific recipe. However, I would love to know if Cooks Illustrated has a version of Vietnamese noodle soup called Pho. My husband introduced it to me after spending a year and a half working with Vietnamese Refugees in Seattle and falling in love with their standard fare. I have made a few different versions of the broth following on-line recipes. But I would like a go-to recipe for this family favorite, and I feel hopeful that if you don’t have it, Cooks Illustrated will! You have introduced Indian cuisine to my repetoir, along with many, many American standards. I use your menu and shopping idea and have modified it to work like a miracle in my own kitchen. I am looking forward to more exploration and experimentation with you … and hopefully with Cooks Illustrated! I want to thank you for helping me out of a cooking rut many months ago, and reminding me of the joy that working in the kitchen brings to me! I’m actually grateful for this contest, even if it only proves to be an opportunity to Thank you!

1009. Oh how awesome! I’ll be busy doing nothing but crossing my fingers till the winner of this wonderful book is announced. I have wanted this book for SO long.

Years ago when I was a child my Mom took a cooking class from some well known Chef from our area. In that class she learned (and was given a copy) how to make the most fabulous French Onion Soup. Sadly my Mom is gone now and while I got all her recipes and cookbooks and had that recipe, I was lost over the years during one of my moves to a new home. I have never found another recipe that compares to that one and it is surely not from the lack of trying. I’ve tried hundreds of recipes and can’t find one. I finally found a restaurant in our area now that made theirs just perfectly and I even got hubby hooked on it. And now that restaurant is gone because they had two different arson fires a little more than a year ago. They also lost many of their recipes but haven’t rebuilt yet because their insurance company is still dragging thier feet. Happily when they reopen, if they do, they will have the soup again since that is one that was not lost. YAY. If I could make it myself however, I’d be thrilled.

1010. I love trying new recipes and tweaking the old ones. This sounds like a great cookbook for that. 🙂
