Hi Mel! I just came across your website while looking for healthy recipes for my family. We are all “nutritionally challenged” and I have a hard time figuring out what to cook. I am attempting to make a lifestyle change for my family, as our pediatrician just told us (in a not so direct way) that our daughter is starting to gain a bit too much weight. She is 7 and a VERY picky eater. She lives on pasta, chicken nuggets, french fries and other junk. If something is healthy, it is pretty much guaranteed that she won’t eat it. We argue and fight over food every day – it is a huge pain point in our household. In addition, her school is very small and does not offer hot lunch, or a way to heat/refrigerate what we send. We have to put an ice pack in her lunch bag to keep her food cold. This severely limits what we can send for lunch as thermoses are not allowed and there is no way to keep warm food warm. I am completely lost! Can you PLEASE help me get my family on the right track? I don’t want my daughter struggling with weight issues because I can’t figure out how to overcome these obstacles. Thanks for listening 🙂
Hi Sam – I’m sorry you are going through this; it seems stressful! I hope you find some healthy recipes in this list that your daughter will enjoy. I have a post here on raising adventurous eaters. Perhaps some tips in there will help.
I love Mel’s site for healthy delicious dinners, and I also love the school lunch round-ups on 100 Days of Real Food for what on earth to feed the kids for lunch. There are several on there, here’s one to get you started. Hope that is helpful! http://www.100daysofrealfood.com/2012/04/19/school-lunch-roundup/
Heads up for your webmaster 🙂 — The Smoked Turkey Panini link from the “healthy meals” page is broken. At least on my computer is takes me to a screen that says “Forbidden” to access that recipe. And, btw, your website is my go-to for dinners for my family. Thanks for all the work you put into it. You make my life easier!
Great collection! A slow cooker collection would be awesome too! Hint, hint!!
I am SO glad you did this collection of recipes!! Some of them I’ve never seen before (older ones). Just bookmarked the Southwestern Chicken Barley Chili for supper 🙂
I have tried so many of these and love them!!
Ooh, awesome roundup! So excited to try these! But, um…where are the desserts?? 😉 Do you mean to say that a solitary lonely little chocolate chip cookie recipe is the only one of your MASSIVE arsenal of treats worthy to be on the healthy page??
Sounds like a good New Year’s resolution…haha!
Thanks for all your hard work!
OMG Mel!! This is wonderful!! Thank you for sharing with all of us!!
Thank you for this! I love having all of these healthy meals all in one place! So many that I want to try! 🙂
I'm Mel, lover of great food, easy recipes and dark chocolate. I'm also a busy mom to 5 kids (+ 16 chickens, 4 cows, 1 dog, 1 cat, 1 beardie, and about 10,423 honey bees)! It's a bit crazy, a lot yummy, and very real around here.
