Snapshot Saturday
Believe it or not, my day-to-day life is filled with much more than the food and recipes that appear on this site. I’ve been at this blogging thing for almost four years now and so many of you have become wonderful friends – friends I never would have had if it weren’t for these recipes and this website. You have shared your stories and lives with me through email and comments and after getting a lot of requests for glimpses into my own life, I took a deep breath, conquered my internet-stalker-paranoia and figured that since I don’t normally post on Saturdays, I would take a Saturday here and there to share a snapshot of my non-blogging life with you. I hope the upcoming reality doesn’t scare you off. I promise not to publish a picture of my toilets with rings around them…but beyond that, no guarantees.
Thank you for all the support you have given me over the years! For your comments, for your reviews of recipes (good or bad), for your emails and for your recipes. This blog has seen me through the addition of two more children to our family (bringing us up to five whoppers), several moves, a personal bout with cancer, and so much more. My connections with you – aside from the delicious eats – have been a strength beyond words. Thank you!
For today’s snapshot, here is a picture taken just this week of my little baby who is growing like crazy. Please ignore my glaring nostril. Miss C is 2 1/2 months and has the happiest personality in the world and makes me very happy by sleeping through the night. You can usually find me at any given time during the day doing just this: laying next to her while she grins and giggles. And while I lay here I hope a magic fairy is cleaning my toilets and doing my dishes. Hasn’t happened yet but dreams can come true. What you don’t see in this picture is her four brothers piled on top of me making her smile even bigger.
I hope each of you have had a stellar week even if you haven’t had a babe laying on your floor slobbering and smiling!
Thanks for sharing more of your life with us. You are an amazing person! When I first started reading this post and skimmed through the words in bold I got nervous you were going to stop blogging. I’m so happy you’re going to keep sharing with us!
So sweet! Look at all of her hair! Blessings to you and your family.
I have been using your blog a lot for the past two years and never left a comment….but I have been wanting to thank you for sharing you talent with me. I literally use recipes off of your blog at least 4 times per week. You do a great job with your recipes and I thank you for sharing them with me! You have made it so convenient to find a good and reliable recipe when I need one. Thank you thank you thank you!
Such a cutie! Thanks for sharing. We have the same outfit abet a little bigger as my little girl is 14 months
Love the blog. I check you out first for recipes when I’m looking because most likely you’ve made it! Being a former Wisconsinite, it is nice to read about cheese (my husband says I use WAY too much). Good luck with everything. I’ll be making that breakfast casserole you posted as soon as possible.
Never did I look that great after having children. So nice to see beyond the food. I promise not to come to Wisconsin, except for smoked mozzarella that they do NOT sell in Alabama.
Mel, I just wanted to say how much I appreciated your sharing this tidbid/snapshot of your personal life. As an avid reader, and as a woman still paving her way through both the kitchen and motherhood, it is nice to have a glimpse at who is behind all these great posts, recipes and pictures. Naturally, I have frequently wondered, “How does she do it!!!???” … and, “Does this sweet gal ever get a chance to sit down for a breather or use the restroom without a little one in the room with her [guessing not, since I have only child and still can’t seem to pee in peace π ] … at any rate, it is so nice to see more of you. Thank you!
ItΒ΄s amazing the bond that can form with people you have no idea about really, except for each of us interpretationΒ΄s of what their life and personality probably are. It amazes me every day! IΒ΄ve been following you for more than a year, way before I started my blog. It feels like such a normal part of my week to check your site, leave a comment. ItΒ΄s wonderful to see how that cute little baby added another reason for you to smile. Have a great week!
I know I don’t know much about the ‘real’ Mel, but just so YOU know…you really are like my favorite ‘virtual’ person! I visit your site more than my family member’s blogs π I love all your recipes and you have literally saved my kitchen and eating! You really have NO idea how much you’ve changed my life. I love ya Mel!! Can’t wait to get to know the you beyond the cook π
What a fun post. Thanks for sharing a glimpse into your life. Your daughter is beautiful and that picture is a framer for sure!
Don’t worry about those toilets and those dishes! They can wait!
I’ve been following your blog for a couple of years now and always hoped you would do something like this, but I totally get the internet stalker thing, I’m right there with you. I’ll be looking forward to these posts, such a precious picture, and such an amazing mommy you are…I have three and don’t know how people can make it look easy, especially those ladies with say, five π I think our boys would get along, mine tackle me all the time and I just had a little girl almost a year ago and never realized how much I needed a little girl in my life, such a wonderful addition. Take care Mel!
What a beautiful Mommy and baby, thank you for sharing.
Aww, she’s a cutie! My little guy is just 2 weeks older than her! They are so precious at that age. (Although I am a WEE bit jealous of this whole sleeping-through-the-night thing. I got woken up every 2 hours last night.)
Love it! What a beautiful daughter!
What a precious pic! Thx so much for giving us a glimpse into your life. I always love it when bloggers post a bit more personal stuff……..just makes me smile! Sweet baby girl!
Mel, I’m jealous of your baby time. I miss it. She is adorable!
So lucky to know you. You are amazing! Can’t wait to meet Miss C!
Mel I love your blog so much!! I have used practically every recipe on your site and they are always delicious. Thank you again for sharing your talent with others by posting your successes. Your baby girl is darling.
I get busy and don’t take time to comment normally but this is still my favorite cooking blog and I really appreciate the effort you put into it! Thanks for sharing the picture… I was anticipating the birth of a baby this winter but had an early miscarriage. Hoping the Lord will bless us with another baby some day!
I agree with Heather Miller, coming to your blog is like checking in with a dear friend .
Thank you for sharing your recipes and snipets of your life with us. AND, what a beautiful picture—–of the both of you!!
Absolutely adorable! Love those first few months of getting to know these precious little ones.
so cute. π
Oh I’m so excited for this! I know I don’t comment often but I talk about you around my house as if we’re good friends. You know, stuff like, “Oh Mel says it’s totally ok to do it this way,” or “I wonder if the weather has improved up there – Mel mentioned it was cold.” So I’m excited to see little glimpses of your life. I love coming to this blog, it’s like hearing from a friend. π A friend with excellent taste, at that!
Thanks for the sweet glimpse. btw, didn’t notice your gigantic nostril until you pointed it out. lol.
I love this post and the picture is precious! Many blessings to you and your sweet family. Thanks for all the great recipes you share with us in blogland! I do appreciate it so much and the recipes are always so good!

This is I sweet! Thanks for sharing! I have only read your blog for about 18 months, but I feel like we are old friends! Crazy? Yeah, but I do. I just love your blog, your humor, your recipes! Thanks for it all! You’ve made me a much better cook and baker!
Mel,
I love this. She’s a doll. I feel like my baby girl filled a place in my heart that I didn’t even know was lacking. I love your down to earth personality and I’m pretty sure we would be friends if we lived closer. π
What a beautiful picture, Melanie. So gald to hear things are going well for you and new sweet darlin’.
~Jamie
PS…clean toilets are totally overrated. π
Isn’t baby hair so funny! It just sticks up everywhere and decides it’s going to do its own thing. She is precious and I’ll bet her big brothers dote on her (not to mention her parents). Thanks, Mel, for sharing your life & love of making great food with us! I’ve hardly cracked a cookbook since I started following food blogs.
Thanks for this snapshot!
Stacie and Liz – not stalkerish at all (Liz)! Seriously, how could we make that happen? That’d be a blast.
Beautiful! Thank you for sharing! God bless.
I am so happy about this new feature, and this snapshot is beautiful. I ditto what Liz said, and would add my 4 1/2 month old to the mix. Would love to chat recipes and eat cookies too…this is as close as it gets for now! Thanks, Mel!
Love it. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for sharing! Little Miss C is adorable. Thanks for all the yummy recipes and inspiration to be a better cook.
A picture is worth 1,000 words………….a treasure.
Oh mel, that is such a precious pic!!! I can’t believe you had a girl finally! I can’t even imagine how much fun your house is! I know how much my kids just adore our new little addition! You are such an amazing mom. Kuddos to you for your healthy home cooking and playing with your kids and managing a hobby on the side and just being awesome! I love to hear from you here. so happy things are great for you!
Thanks for sharing! Adorable picture!!
Wow, her hair is amazing. Two of my children had tons of hair and then the little bald fellow. lol
So beautiful! Both of you!
Awwww! So glad you shared! π
Yes, life is more than cooking, isn’t it? It is? I didn’t know that. Beautiful little girl!!!
Beautiful little girl Mel! Thanks for sharing.
This picture screams “HAPPINESS” – so beautiful. Thanks for sharing your recipes and also giving us a tiny glimpse of your personal life.
Mel, you are awesome! You have a beautiful little girl and I am amazed that juggle it all. I love how you always “keep it real” on your blog. You share incredible food, but never put on a show about perfection. Thanks for your work!
Precious! This is the most internet-stalkerish thing to say, but I wish that we were neighbors and could get together with your baby girl and my 4 month old and they could lay on a blanket while we talked recipes and ate lots of cookies! Haha. Thank you for sharing your life and wonderful recipes!
So precious! I don’t comment much, because everything you post turns out pretty darn good, but thank you for all of your hard work keeping-up with your blog amidst taking care of your family! I have 4 children, so I can relate…and it’s probably why I relate to your recipes so well, too! The sausage and egg breakfast bake is baking away as I type! Have a wonderful weekend!
I’ve been hoping for more life-stuff for a long time! I’m so glad you read my mind! That’s an adorable picture.
I love to come here for the food (of course, we food bloggers are all the same!), but this feature will be very enjoyable. It is a privilege to get to know someone through photos and little wisps of life offered. Thank you.
