Happy Mother’s Day to Me????
Fluffballs Are A Lot of Work.
My Life is Over.*
(*that’s actually what I wanted to name her but the kids thought Maggie was more appropriate)
Never Say Never.
Ok, I Admit It: She’s Adorable.
I’d write more but…well…you know, there’s a puppy somewhere chewing on something who needs some attention.

Golden’s Rule! Best wishes for many happy years with her!
Ah, she is cute! Good luck ๐ I just wanted to say, I love your blog. It is my go to for meals. I am restarting my Menu Planning on my blog-really it is only used for meal planning this time around though-after a 1.5 year break. The break was a really bad idea. 4:30pm-6:30pm has been the most stressful time of my day in that 1.5 years! I will be using many, many of your recipes. Thank you!
Whenever I have a bad day, I will come to this comments section and count all the times the words “Maggie is adorable” are used. What a pick-me-up!
A puppy = MOM’S new baby. Yes, yours! He’s adorable!
We have a Maggie as well, but she is a yellow lab. Your Maggie is adorable!! Take lots of pictures…they grow so fast!
We just got a puppy too (a goldendoodle), at the end of march. I agree with the comment that said there is a reason they are so cute, it helps outweigh the frustration! Our little guy is doing really well though. It may sound way too nerdy for you but I found that if I rollerblade during walks I can keep up with my kids on bikes and wear out puppy too ๐ good luck and have fun!
We have a Golden Retriever who is now 7 1/2 years old. He was a lot of work as a puppy but he is a pretty good dog now. And yes, the hair is everywhere and on everything. But with all the love and joy he gives us, it’s worth it! At least that’s what I tell myself every time I vacuum!
Wow, Mel! My husband keeps telling me we need a dog, but I told him we had to wait until the baby wasn’t a baby anymore. . . because I can only do one baby at a time. . . ๐ Good luck! I grew up with goldens (our family has had 5 over the past 20 years), and they are the best dogs you could ever hope for. Enjoy little Maggie! Just like babies, they grow up too fast! ๐
So much work!! But they are kind of like kids, if you do it right it pays off later. She’s a cutie!
She looks like a keeper! Puppies ARE A LOT OF WORK and I just know that is why they are so darn adorable. Love her to pieces, she will grow into a great dog for the family. Congratulations!
What a cutie! We’re also getting a GR soon. She’s 3 weeks old today. We get to see her in a week. Can’t wait. Have you had a Golden before? We’ve had 3 and they are the best not to mention they are the cutest puppies.
Somebody mentioned homemade dog biscuits. I have made them in the past and our dog at the time loved them. I’ll have to see if I can find the recipe and send it to you.
That’d be great, Dwight! Never thought I’d be making homemade dog treats but hey, never say never, right?
That is one lucky puppy to become part of your family! They are a lot of work in the beginning but they end up giving so much more than they take. SO CUTE!
Maggie is absolutely adorable! We got a black lab puppy when I was home on maternity leave with my youngest son who was 6 month old at the time. She was a pretty good puppy and was easy to crate train. I’m glad I had 6 more months at home with her before I had to go back to work though because it sure made house training easier. She has been a handful as she got bigger though – very hyper and happy – (even at 9-1/2 years old!) – world’s worst guard dog EVER since she loves everyone, ha,ha! The amount of hair she sheds is incredible (plus we have 2 cats too which doesn’t help the hair situation any). But your kids will love having Maggie to grow up with! Maybe you can add a new section to your recipe collection now – homemade dog biscuits perhaps??
Congrats on your new puppy, Mel! She is such a cutie! Puppies, like babies, are a lot of work in the beginning, but the end result is so worth it. She will be a wonderful addition to your beautiful family! My nickname as a child was Maggie, so of course I love her name!
Aw Maggie is adorable! Puppies are so much work but it’s all worth it in the end. Make sure to get on a schedule. I also highly suggest investing in Nature’s Miracle (http://www.petsmart.com/dog/stain-odor-removers/nature-s-miracle-trade-pet-stain-odor-remover-zid36-13652/cat-36-catid-100018?var_id=36-13652&_t=pfm%3Dcategory%26pfmvalue%3Dfaceted) for all those accidents that are going to happen. It’s the best I’ve found and I even keep some on hand now even though my animals are older for those unfortunate vomiting accidents.
Awwww! How adorable! That makes me excited and a little nervous! Not ready for sleepless nights again! We have a puppy coming in July hopefully, as long as mama has enough in her belly. ๐ She’s due in 2 weeks, so we’ll find out soon! Is that a lab or a retriever?
Trish – she’s a little golden retriever. Good luck with your own upcoming addition!
Thanks, Mel! We’re getting a golden retriever too! They are so sweet. ๐
Love the captions! Good luck!
She makes me want a dog! Ahhh! So adorable. Then I remember ask the work they are and it makes me want to cry for you. Good luck. I’m sure you’re kids are in heaven!
Maggie is adorable! Mel, you will love her to pieces … a dog completes a household! Congratulations….really!! All of us want to hear about her antics, your frustrations … don’t leave anything out!
Hugs, Carole
Oh no what a sweet little ball of fur, Mel! You know what they say, don’t you? The puppy is the period at the end of the child sentence (no pun intended!). Congratulations on reaching the end of the sentence. Can’t wait to hear all about her!!
xo Nicole
Mel I love your honesty! Hee hee! We got a puppy 5 years ago named Rose Bud. We almost gave her away to my in-laws because, well, dogs are alot of work and I was working full time back then and felt guilty about leaving her, etc, etc. But then when my mother-in-law told me they were going to change her name to Dolcenaea I was totally against giving her away because she is a “Rose Bud” not Dolcenaea. After that I realized how much I had gotten attached and that I wanted to keep her. She is truly the best dog we could have hoped for. We love her so much and I pray that God will give her long years because I can’t imagine life without her. It’s that 1st year that is the hardest… ๐
Mel, you are one brave lady!!! Puppies are a LOT of work…and five kids on top of that??!! I need to know your secrets!!!!!! But Maggie is adorable for sure! Good luck!!
Aaawwww!!!! What a sweetie. That little face could cure anything that’s wrong =) Please keep us updated on her and give her lots of hugs and kisses for me.
Mel, love her! Now your adorable family is even more perfect. Enjoy every moment together!
omg adorable, i love dogs so much http://thewanderlusthasgotme.blogspot.co.uk/2014/05/i-love-dogs.html
AWwwww! Congrats… FYI- there is an awesome cleaner out there called “Kids and Pets”… it’s AMAZING. It’s enzymatic and it really makes a difference on all the accident, carpet or hard surface. I can use it in the laundry AND I even used it in my carpet cleaner and of course spot cleaning. Get a couple of bottles. It’s fantastic for pets. (and kids- hence the name) ๐ Have fun! Remember- consistency and routine… lol (ha ha ha) Yeah it’s lucky they are so stinkin’ cute!
Your new pup is adorable!!!!!!! I love having pets in the house. I have two Shiba Inus and could not imagine not having dogs in the home. They bring in a fun spirit. The puppy stage is a lot of work but she will out grow it in time. ๐ Yes, please share more on her. She’s going to be a big girl by looking at her paws.
I taught obedience classes for years at our local kennel club. I have one word of advice – Crate. Crate train her while she’s young. Most dogs actually grow to love their crates. If you use a wire crate, put a towel or blanket over the top for a more cave like feeling. Also, while she’s still a puppy, take her places in the car so she won’t be scared of car rides. This is hard to remedy in older dogs. Enjoy your new family member!
I was JUST writing on my blog yesterday about my new puppy!! He’s a whopping 3.4 pound ball of fluffy mischief! ๐ Here are pics, (and my latest recipe) Enjoy Mel, and good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have fun with that newborn in your house! She is awfully cute. Good thing! =)
Your little Maggie is a Cutie Pie! How can anyone resist a Golden Retriever puppy?? Goldens are easily trained (crates are wonderful when they’re little), are wonderful with children, and will give you unconditional love forever! I’m on my third one, and have said “no more” after each one.
As the proud adopter of an 18-month old pup ( just recently) I know all the syndromes. And yet he makes me feel like a teenager in love.
Mel chose the 6th one to be a puppy!?? The saying, โCommon sense went right out the windowโ, came to mind immediately. ๐ You are one brave soul. Recognizing the great value of a cat and dog in the lives of our children (learning the loving and long-time responsibility of caring for a little one completely dependent on you for all their needs), makes having a dog and cat very worthwhile. This is one of the best ways to teach our children the character trait of giving your resources and time to others . Having said this, the latest addition to our family is a 14 year old rescue dog from the Humane Society that constantly seeks out our attention and love. Seriously, he is still energetic and is like a puppy. He loves long runs with us begging constantly at the door to โgo out and playโ. Yep, a dog is a most wonderful gift, Happy Motherโs Day!
When I was 64, and my husband was 67, we I got TWO Yorkie puppies to replace our older male who had just died. Our friends thought we were crazy, but they keep us moving, and at 3 years old, they are still so cute. people stop their cars to tell us how cute they are, as we walk them together. It’s like Mexican Jumping Beans (or Whirling Dervishes) but when they sit on your lap (both of them) and look at you with those big eyes, it’s all worth it. Maggie will soon be a solid part of your family. Until then, patience….
AWWWW…Maggie is sooo adorable! Your children must be so excited! It’s all coming back to me now….those first few months with our Dolly! (a Yorkie mix) Hang in there…like some one else said…their like a new born but they develop much faster! Buckle up…your in for a fun ride!! Welcome to your new home, Maggie!!
She’s adorable! A puppy is like a newborn, but they develop much faster. It will be one of the best things you’ve ever done. Promise.
Oh what a good giggle I got out of this! I too got one of these the day I moved into our new home with new carpet. Can’t say enough good things about crate training!!!! We lost our little dog in December and it broke our hearts. Enjoy!
The love little Miss Maggie with bring to your family will make you forget all the work involved in having her. Great addition to your family, Enjoy!! ๐
Puppies are a lot of work but I’m sure that she will bring much joy into your home. She is just so cute. Your children must be so excited to have her.
Aw, my dog I had while growing up was named Maggie.
We just got a new puppy two weeks ago…and then my husband went out of town for a week. It’s like having at newborn that refuses to sleep through the night, a two year old refusing to potty where it’s required, and a four year old trashing your house all rolled into one! And I paid good money for this abuse!!! Good thing she’s so darn cute.
