Snapshot Saturday: Three of My Favorite Things
For the record, I’d like to state that I’m still cool enough and strong enough to push a tire swing so fast that my boys scream like little girls and beg for just one more push.
And now that we’ve got that out of the way, I’d like to share three of my favorite things lately.
Warning: this list is as random as it gets but all of these things are fantastically awesome and need to be shared with the world.
(P.S. I’m not affiliated with any of these companies or products other than the fact that I can’t imagine life without them.)
1) Klutz Face Painting Book:
This just might be one of the funnest kid-items (heck, it’s great for adults, too!) we own and we use it all the time so don’t be alarmed if you run into us at the store and my kids have a killer whale painted on their cheeks. My dear friend, Jenna, gifted this book to us years ago and we still are getting good use out of it. In fact, just last week, I bribed my cute neighbor to let me paint her face like a butterfly since no one in my house has chosen that design yet (shocker). I know, don’t quit my day job, right? But still, she loved it and her sweet mom wheeled Miss C around in the stroller while I worked on the masterpiece outside on our front steps so it was a win-win for all.
2) My Life Planner:
Yes, I realize that I’m completely old school in that I still prefer to paper-plan versus electronic-plan. I can’t get behind the phone or app calendars because I still love having a paper planner sitting right in front of me. This planner from Erin Condren has revolutionized keeping our schedules organized. I just can’t even begin to express how much I love it. There are labels and color-coordination pens and bookmarks and glorious colored tabs. Basically, there’s a whole lot to love even though Brian pulls the I-feel-like-the-3rd-wheel-card every time I plop down on the couch next to him for date night-movie night with my planner and colored pens in hand. Anytime is a good time to calendar.
3) Korr Lip Butter:
I don’t wear a lot of makeup and the whole makeup industry scares and confuses me. I kind of stick to mascara and call it good. However, my very classy makeup-knowledgeable friend, Jen, gave me some of this lip butter last summer and I.Am.Hooked. I feel like I’m all dressed up with nowhere to go when I’m wearing it and I keep it with me at all times. It’s not too tacky and sticky (which I hate in some lip glosses) but adds the perfect amount of shine and gloss while still moisturizing. Love, love, love. I have the Jasmine and Mango and oh my gosh, I just saw that the Jasmine is only $5 which is way less than when I bought it a few weeks ago. Buy some now.
And on a closing note, I just have to share a picture of this pumpkin lounging on the couch. I mean, with a body and hair like that, wouldn’t you think you owned the place, too?
Thanks for sticking with me through the randomness today. Have a great weekend!

I loved this post. Besides seeing some great things I just *have* to have, I laughed out loud at your darling little pumpkin. Great snapshot!
Let’s be honest. I’d have a body like that little pumpkin if I lived at your house!
Question: Is the lip butter tinted? Does it change the color of your lips dramatically?
Holly – the Jasmine is not tinted. It’s the one I love most. The Pomegranate and other ones are tinted but nothing like lipstick. Just a slight tint.
Aw, snapshot Saturday finally! At the end of a very busy day, I grab a cup of coffee, boot up the computer and quickly load up Mels Kitchen Cafe. There I find humor that brings on out loud laughter and pictures of such adorable kids. And what a wonderful surprise to see the joys of face painting that comes with an instruction manuel. I’m impressed and ordering this fun activity for one of those rainy days (like the storms we are having today) to keep my adorable children entertained. Now on to planning next week’s meals which will include several of your recipes. Thanks for being such a blessing to so many!
How did life get going so fast?! I swear the craziness just drowns me and then I come up for air and your boys are so big and your pumpkin is already so big and so sweet! I just wanted to say hi and tell you how much it meant to me when you reached out when Kayla’s thyroid started to whack out. I didn’t mean to ignore your offer of help and was so grateful for your words, even if it took me months and months to come up for air. You amaze me as always and I just wanted you to know!
LOVE the butterfly! I don’t know how you have time to do all that you do!
Love this–you should share random things you love more often! I have never seen that planner, I think I found my birthday present! Your little girl is sooo cute! Thanks for keeping up your awesome site!
That little pumpkin is adorable! She is growing so fast.
Oh your baby girl is so cute!
I have the same print of the same planner as you! I love it! How can you not use something so cheerful 🙂
How is your baby that grown up already?! What a doll!
Thanks for sharing!! I love it when people share random favorite things. I am so buying that face paintbook! C is a darling little girl! Mine just turned one. It’s nice to have a girl after having boys! (I only have two boys tho)
Let’s face it. Babies as cute as that DO own the place. Everyone is at her bidding.
Love it ~ Thanks Mel! Your neighbor is all smiles 🙂
Had to laugh at your calendar comment. It drives my husband crazy that I won’t do a digital calendar. Last year he set up a Google calendar for the family…everyone was color coded….he still uses it for himself, I’m back to the free National Wildlife Federation calendar push pinned into the back of the cabinet door! Your little girl is too cute- love how she has commandeered the couch!
I love your site…and with 3 very busy boys…your recipes are so great–quick, easy and ingredients that anyone can find……..and I have a Cam too..ie camden and his hair can be wild (he’s 9)……I think I just found my new planner……we have a monthly calendar that I color coordinate….so this will be a great addition…have a super saturday…!!
I love doing face painting… Never do we ever get that fancy, but we do have special pencils. As a preschool teacher I learned that watercolor colored pencils are fabulous for face painting. We should get together sometime and face paint and see what you think of them. Tijah would love a butterfly like that…. in fact she might just be in heaven.
Love your pictures, and lil’ pumpkin is ADORABLE! I’ve never seen Korr Lip Butter, but I will be looking for it…thanks for sharing 🙂
I too would rather have paper and pen to do whatever. My son has threatened to put all my recipes on the computer. NO WAY!!! I like them in a book much better. I have printed off way too many. Hahaha!!!
That pic of your little Cam is a hoot. Love it!!!
How do you not chew on your baby’s cheeks and neck all day! She is just adorable! I have 2 boys ages 10 and 12 and I would love to have a baby girl.
I LOVE when people share their favorite things….random schmandom! Your baby is so sweet and sassy!
I love old school organizers. Still think my loose recipes torn from magazines are the best. And Cam´s hair simply KILLS ME!
Ooo…might be the first comment! You are an awesome face painter! This would be super fun to have around!
