Recipes the World Forgot
I’m checking in today to tell you about 12 of my favorite recipes you should make ASAP!
If you are new to the “Recipes the world forgot” series, this is where I highlight some favorite recipes hiding in the archives. The ones that deserve a new chance in the spotlight! With thousands of recipes living here after 17 years of blogging, sometimes it’s refreshing to bring some of the old classics to the forefront again.
Have you made any of these recipes? They are all SO DELICIOUS!
Of particular note: those sloppy joe’s will rekindle your love for the old classic dish, and the crispy shrimp tacos are the most-requested birthday meal around here for most of my kids! (Also, that grilled lime coconut chicken is one of my favorite dishes of all time.)
Those shrimp tacos are sooo good. We love them. They make restaurant tacos feel like losers. Nice job Mel!
I make those flatbreads all the time! They are simple and amazing!
Now I’m craving the shrimp tacos. They truly are next level.
The baked shrimp tacos are FAVORITES around here! They are magical in how simple they are, but oh so delicious. We are spoiled as we live in a shrimping area, with off the boat catches. You don’t want to do much to the shrimp to take away from the flavor. These are perfect!
So lucky, Ann!! I bet the shrimp is amazing where you live!
When there are 15 comments on same date Aug 2nd,there is no way that wasn’t planned by that group. The depth of the comments are lame they are not random.I always read and cook with Mel’s recipes. Its not her I’m saying anything negative about its all of the “friends” that all happened to chime in on the same date and close in times.Theres no way that happened generically. When that happens it doesn’t help the site or anyone.
I give Mel a lot of credit for not removing my comment. Many sites I’m sure don’t like negativity and she kept in.That says a lot about her.
Hi Jeff (again), I’m not sure why these comments are bothering you so much, but I left an in-depth response (to your first comment) down below. I hope it helps explain things a bit more. I assure you everything is on the up and up around here. 🙂
The shrimp tacos are especially amazing! And the coconut rice is next level. Thanks for all of your amazing hard work. You are always my go to person for recipes!
Thank you so much, Cyndi!
We started making the coconut lime chicken about a month ago and have made the times since. It is so delicious! Truly a. Winner!
It is one of my absolute favorites – so happy you love it as well, Miriam!
I would love, for these posts, instead of just a grid of the recipes, for each one you choose you have a little blurb about when you have made it lately, what you served it with, why it’s great, etc. I love the idea of these posts but I would love to hear a little more of Mel in them 🙂
I second this!
Thanks for the feedback, Stephanie! I used to do these “recipes the world forgot” posts that way and got feedback that people didn’t like all the extra info, so I transitioned to making them more streamlined. I’ll see if I can hit a happy medium next time!
Don’t forget the Amazing Gluten Free Chocolate Cake with whipped frosting. We are not a gluten free family but this cake is amaaaaaaaazing!! You’d never know it’s made with quinoa. I make it in a bundt pan and turns out perfectly moist.
Yes!! I totally agree! And I’ve never made it in a bundt pan – thanks for sharing that tidbit of info!
When you have all your friends and family fake comment on the same day it in my opinion is very disrespectful to the rest of your readers. You don’t think we all know these are bogus comments?Im a guy that’s been on Pinterest for years.Youd be better off telling your acquaintances not to do that because,IMO,your site loses all legitimacy.
I don’t think there are any fake comments. Mel is a go to for a lot of people- me included. If you follow her long enough, you’d see she’s genuine and what you see is what you get.
People like you should just stay off of all food blogging sites. She is giving you FREE recipes. No money out pocket for you. Go back to the old days of buying cookbooks/magazines on recipes that were not home tested and eaten by a legit family. Who cares where the comments may come from. Bottom line is I’ve never tried a Mel recipe that wasn’t edible.
Debbie,I know how it works.I doubt I’ll stay off the sites because you told me to.You should probably read what said in its entirety.Put the claws back in.
I’ll definitely follow Mel’s recipes like I always have.I know she’s a great person. So out of respect for her,I’ll keep future comments to myself. Its becoming very unhealthy especially when there’s 100 ladies against 1 guy,Lol.
Hi Jeff, you’ve left similar comments on several of my other recipes, too. It almost feels like you’re bothered that people comment on my posts? I’m having trouble understanding where you’re coming from. But either way, I think the reason you see so many comments coming in on the same day is when I post a new recipe (or a new post like this one), I also send out an email about it that same day, and talk about it on Instagram (and include a link). Because of that, people click the links and pop over on that same day (or the day after) and leave comments, which is why you see an influx of comments pretty close together. I have worked really hard to build a very authentic, non-spammy following. Bogus comments don’t do anything for me, and I can assure you that if there are fake/spammy/bogus comments, they get deleted. I actually really, really appreciate every single comment a real human makes the effort to leave on my blog.
I just saw this after my last response. So I heard what you said and understand it better now.
Thanks
Grilled lime coconut chicken is LEGIT! A must-make during summer!
Yes! 100% agree!
Zucchini pizza crust and shrimp tacos both happen regularly here! And the pita bread was actually on my list to try this week!
I hope you love the bread, Ashlee!
Crispy Shrimp Tacos!!!!!!🌮
Definitely an all time favorite in our House.
Although, we’re having Richard’s salad. Our spin on your Spinach, apple, craisin, feta salad. We add rotisserie chicken, pine nuts or sunflower seeds (in place of the pecans) and lately we have been use Chick-fil-A apple cider dressing (purchased at Walmart) My husband’s all time favorite salad.
Oh my goodness, Katherine, that salad sounds AMAZING!!
We just tried the flatbread yesterday! Easy and delicious!! I doubled it hoping it would last just a couple days and my fam ate almost all of it on day one!!
Hahaha, sounds like what happens around here!
We make your sloppy joes all the time!! And no kidding, I have the grilled lime coconut chicken on my list for dinner tonight! It’s one of my husband’s absolute favorites.
Love hearing the recipes you guys love, Whitney! Fun timing on that grilled lime coconut chicken one…
Those breakfast cookies are a regular in our house. And peach pie sounds perfect right now!
Agreed!
I definitely didn’t forget about that lemonade recipe. It’s my go-to recipe and I share it with everyone who asks. Best lemonade ever.
Happy to know you love that one, Vanessa!
Just made the sloppy joes last night – it’s a regular around here. The grilled coconut lime chicken is one of my favorites and I also love the fresh lemonade recipe!
It makes me happy knowing so many love that grilled coconut lime chicken!
I made the Amazing Fresh Peach Pie and it was hands down the best peach pie I’ve ever eaten!
Yay, Allie!!
The baked crispy shrimp tacos and the grilled lime coconut chicken with coconut rice are two of our favorites. Don’t skip the coconut rice and definitely make extra sauce to pour over the top.
Agree on all counts!
Some definite favorites in there: Amazing Grilled Pork and Veggie Salad, Healthy Breakfast Cookies, and Baked Crispy Shrimp Tacos are always a huge hit at my house!
Thanks for listing the ones you love from the list, Becky!
The grilled lime coconut chicken is a fav in our household! Anytime I make it for others, I’m asked for the recipe so I send them your way. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for sure. We pair it with a fresh mango, kiwi, strawberry salsa and it is to die for!
That sounds like an amazing combo, Melysa!
Those baked shrimp tacos are life-changing! Easily my family’s most requested meal and I make them frequently for company because they are so delicious and easy to make. Cannot recommend them enough! And your sloppy Joe recipe is the only one I make! So much flavor!
You’re amazing, Aubrey! I make my family wait for special occasions for the shrimp tacos haha.
The baked crispy shrimp tacos were such a HIT with my entire extended family during the holidays this year! I substituted fresh Ginger for the jalapeño peppers and it was outrageously yum. My mouth is watering just thinking about them….
Love that change, Amy – thanks for mentioning it!
That peach pie is my all time fav. I do not like baked peaches, so this is a winner all around. And, the shrimp tacos are also completely amazing.
It’s my favorite pie, too, Dodi!
