Grilled Lemon Chicken Wraps with Spicy Garlic Sauce
The perfect summer meal? I think so! These grilled lemon chicken wraps with spicy garlic sauce are not only super simple to make, the flavors are completely out of this world.
Let’s talk about these simple and absolutely delicious lemon chicken wraps. I could eat this lineup every day for the rest of forever – it’s totally my style of food.
The flavors are downright incredible without being overly fussy and complicated, and as ridiculous as it sounds, I get super happy whenever this meal is on the docket.

As in, I think it’s impossible to have a bad day when I know I’m going to be eating this for dinner. Is that weird? Or just a really good coping skill?
This recipe is seriously as easy as marinating the chicken for a bit, slapping it on the grill and then piling the tender, juicy chicken pieces on flatbread with lettuce, tomatoes and the most delectable spicy (or not) garlic sauce you’ve ever met.
The whole combination is heavenly.
Plus, as I’ve kind of alluded to already, that amazing garlic sauce is right up there with The Best Sauces of All Time (like this yogurt-hummus sauce and this creamy BBQ cilantro lime dressing).
It actually makes the whole issue of what do I love best about this recipe more complicated.
The chicken? Flatbread? Sauce? HOW WILL I EVER CHOOSE? I know. My life is suuuuuper hard.
If you haven’t made this homemade flatbread, now might be the time.
It’s so easy to make (perfect for newbie and/or expert bread makers), and I can’t even describe the sense of joy I feel if I’m lucky enough to sneak a fresh flatbread hot off the griddle (bonus points if it’s slathered in butter prior to devouring) without my kids noticing.
I make a lot of bread, but flatbread is easily one of my favorite homemade breads to make.
Whenever I make it, I double or triple the recipe because the cooked flatbread freezes great and makes an already simple meal like these grilled lemon chicken wraps even simpler (and yummier).
Having said that, we all know that life is life, so don’t beat yourself up if homemade flatbread isn’t in your future. Buy it and cut the guilt.
Summer dinner simplified! It’s right here in these grilled lemon chicken wraps. Make ’em!

Grilled Lemon Chicken Wraps with Spicy Garlic Sauce
Ingredients
Chicken + Wraps:
- 2 pounds boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch pieces
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, about 1 1/2 teaspoons or so, finely minced or pressed through a garlic press
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon zest, from about 1-2 lemons
- 3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- Bamboo or metal skewers for grilling
- 4 to 6 flatbread or pita bread wraps (see note)
- 2 to 3 cups spring lettuce mix, or baby spinach
- Sliced tomatoes
Spicy Garlic Sauce:
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- ½ cup plain Greek yogurt
- 2 to 3 cloves garlic, a heaping teaspoon, finely minced or pressed through a garlic press
- 1-2 teaspoons sriracha/hot sauce, more or less to taste
- ½ teaspoon salt
- Pinch black pepper
- Squeeze of fresh lemon juice, a couple teaspoons
Instructions
- For the chicken, place the cubed chicken in a flat dish or in a gallon ziploc bag.
- Whisk together the olive oil, garlic, lemon zest, lemon juice, salt, pepper, oregano, cumin and paprika. Pour over the chicken, toss to coat, and cover the dish (or seal the bag) and place in the refrigerator to marinate for at least an hour or up to 8 hours.
- Thread the chicken pieces on metal or bamboo skewers and grill on medium-high, flipping halfway, until the chicken is cooked through, about 6-8 minutes total.
- Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before serving.
- For the garlic sauce, combine all the ingredients in a blender and process until smooth (you can also whisk together in a bowl). I like to pour the mixed sauce into a squeeze bottle for easy serving. Refrigerate until ready to serve; the sauce can be made a week ahead of time.
- To serve, place lettuce greens down the center of each wrap, followed by slices of tomato, grilled chicken and a healthy drizzle of spicy garlic sauce.

So good. I don’t always grill the chicken but also just cook it in a pan. Amazing! One of my family’s favorites!
So I have to admit that I don’t have a grill, so I just marinated the chicken and then cooked it in a pan on the stove, but it was still 5 stars! So yummy!!! We ate them with naan bread and added avacado with the lettuce and tomato. So easy and so good!
We are also late comers to this recipe. But oh man. That sauce is amazing! Sriracha is out at our store, so we subbed in Sweet Chili sauce and it was amazing.
All my kids gobbled up the chicken.
I made another pita wrap with just basic grilled chicken and the sauce. Also very good.
A keeper for us!
Made this recipe this weekend for my husband and I for a lighter option since it’s been so unbearably hot and it was a big hit!….The Spicy Garlic Sauce is what really set it off. I can see myself using that sauce on other things like fried shrimp! So yummy!
Best chicken we’ve made in a while. My whole family of 6 loved it. They were sad when the chicken was gone. And don’t forget the sauce. Yummy!
The only thing I hate about this recipe is that I didn’t try it sooner! OMG!!! Phenomenal flavor, Mel. And that garlic sauce… I could drink it! We ended up doubling the olive oil as our marinade was more of a paste, and we didn’t have skewers so we grilled whole breasts that we slightly pounded first. We also used pitas from Costco.
This recipe is “restaurant quality” as we like to say in our house when something blows us away. Actually, it’s better than the chicken wraps I’ve had at popular Greek restaurants in my city! We will be eating this all summer long.
My 13-year-old daughter and my 14-year-old daughter are homeschooled. They attend a Challenge community day once a week. The youngest is a major foodie, but the oldest is very, VERY picky. It can sometimes be lonely for her in a house full of foodies.
When I picked them up from class today, they asked what was for dinner, and I replied, “I have chicken marinating for Mel’s lemon chicken wraps and I made the garlic sauce.” **Both** of them practically yelled, “OH BOY!!! YAY!!!!!! YUM!!!!” so loud I almost crashed the car.
You have NO IDEA how nice it is to a) hear my oldest non-foodie child get excited about a meal, and b) the meal is one the entire family enjoys!
Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of this foodie-mama-of-a-non-foodie-child’s heart.
(The youngest is currently making your homemade flatbread to go with them!)
Oh, I loved this so much, Becky! Thank you for sharing!! First of all, this is one of my favorite meals in the history of ever. Second of all, I’m seriously impressed your teenager is making the flatbread. So awesome!
One of my favorite recipes! That sauce is awesome.
Where to begin?? These were incredible! Definitely restaurant worthy. My daughter marinated the chicken because it slipped my mind before I headed into work. I would have kept them whole for the marinade & grilling phases, but she followed the recipe exactly & I’m so glad she did! I think cutting into chunks results in better flavor. I used naan from Trader Joe’s, added cucumber, served it with onion rings & called it a day. This is definitely in our regular rotation. Another incredible recipe by Mel❤️
I love knowing people love this recipe because it is one of my all-time favorites. Thanks for the comment, Rebecca!
Do you think it’s possible to do this in the instant pot? Our bbq is out of propane 🙁
You could try – you’d have to add at least a cup of liquid and the flavors may be diluted, but it’s worth a try!
These are amazing! The marinade for the chicken is sooo good! I made these last week and we liked them so much we are making them again today!
The sauce is my favorite thing of all time. I freaking drink it. Thank you!
I made this tonight for supper and didn’t plan ahead well. I didn’t have pita or flat bread so I used tortillas. It was wonderful! The sauce was so much better than I anticipated! Definitely will make this again,! Also I didn’t have screwers so I made it outside on my flat top grill with some fresh veggies. Next time I think I will grill my tortillas too!
Made this tonight. Loved the sauce, it is simply the best. I imagine it would be great on a burger. Made the flatbread and everything came together great. Can hardly wait for lunch tomorrow.
Mel you’re amazing. I’m 7 months pregnant and this hit the spot for me in just the right way. I added some chopped cucumbers that needed to be used and warmed up the pitas on the griddle. So good! It’s a classic favorite that I will us over and over. A regular statement used in our house after dinner is “mel does it again!”
Amazing!! We loved it. My kids loved the homemade pita flatbread. We will definitely make this again. I made it slightly easier and marinated thin chicken breasts and just cut them after they were cooked.
Thank you!
I made this tonight and it was a hit. Just my hubby and I so lots left over. I did not chunk up the chicken and skewer it but instead sliced the chicken breast through the middle to make it thinner and grilled that way, chunking up later. The sauce was yummy . One tsp of siracha was just right. The only sad part was I used pitas instead which I’m not a huge fan of because I couldn’t find flatbread in the store, I thought about Naan but passed on that and went for the pita pockets. Next time I’ll make sure I have yeast on hand ahead of time to make my own flatbread. The chicken flavor and the sauce made up for the lack of flatbread. I’m congratulating my self because this is the first time in my cooking history that I actually zested until I had the right amount. I usually give up way too soon. Great and easy recipe.
I made this a year or two ago and loved it but somehow forgot about it amid all your other amazing recipes. I had leftover flatbread (your recipe is amazing!!) in my freezer so this meal was really super quick to put together tonight and it was so dang delicious! I roasted up some sweet potato “fries” on a sheet pan in the oven and they make a great vehicle for the sauce (just sayin’!). We have a big family camping trip next week and I’m thinking I’ll make and freeze the flatbread again, and do the crockpot suggestion I saw below in the comments for the chicken and maybe shred and freeze that to bring for the dinner I’m in charge of. Fanciest camping dinner ever, but it should be a breeze to get ready in a campground, I think. Can’t wait!!
Now that’s my kind of camping meal!
I’ve been “closet” following you for a couple of years and have tried tons of your recipes and LOVE them. I tell all of my friends about your site so I figured I should review some of my favorites. This is hands down my favorite summer dinner. I follow the recipe exactly but I use those mini Naans you can get at Costco because they are a little more flavorful and pliable than pita. (I’m also too lazy/don’t have time to make homemade pita). I just buy them and freeze them and when we are ready to eat I pop them in the toaster and they taste like they are fresh out of the oven. The sauce really takes this over the top. The best sauce I’ve had! Thanks for this amazing recipe and all you do!
Thank you so much, Liz! Love you even more because this is one of my favorite recipes EVER!
I used boneless chicken thighs, and didn’t skewer them, just sliced when done. I didn’t have time to make flatbread, but I found some whole grain naan on markdown that worked perfectly. We topped with some fresh greens from the garden, and added some feta.
The sauce is the bomb! I plan on making a salad with the leftovers and using the sauce for a dressing.
THIS IS my favorite meal right now. So flavorful! The sauce is our favorite, try dipping Pizza in it and you will die of happiness. Thank you for this yummy recipe!!
Just made these for lunch and they are incredible! I marinated them overnight and just cooked them over the stove, so I didn’t grill them. They honestly are soooo delicious and I loved it!
Soo grateful for your newsletter which convinced us to try this recipe
And now think it is our fav Mel recipe of all times! AMAZING and my husband kept eating the sauce with a spoon. . . Also amazingly good for lunch the next day- we loved this!!
I loved seeing this comment, Rachel! People thought I was crazy to request this for a birthday meal, but ISN’T IT AMAZING??
Husband cheered when found out it was for dinner- calls it ‘best Mels’s chicken ever with pink sauce’ This may be most requested dinner ever except for your Sweet/Sour Chicken. . or Thai Mango Curry . . Or Quick/Easy Pizza . . or Spaghetti pie . . etc etc – you rock
Made this for dinner, big hit!
I had leftovers so I decided to make this into a salad. Equally yum
YUMM!!!!! So good. I made the homemade flatbread and I loved it!!
These are amazing Mel! I know it says 4-6 servings, but my husband and I ended up eating the entire thing ourselves. (Oops) My husband claimed that these are just as good as his favorite gyros which is a huge compliment! Thanks for all of the wonderful recipes!
So happy to hear you loved these, Nicole!
This is my new favorite meal!!!
This looks amazing, do you know how many calories for the meal or just the skewers and the sauce separately?
I don’t have the calorie count, sorry!
Hey Mel, If I don’t have any plain greek yogurt, can I strain some plain regular yogurt to make it a little thicker and use that instead?
Yep!
We had this plus the honey lime fruit salad for dinner (which was delish!). This chicken was so yummy – the kind that I just want to keep picking at even though I should be done. I was in a hurry, so I didn’t cut up the chicken, we just marinated and cooked the chicken breasts whole. I love using the thin frozen chicken breasts from Costco. They cook fairly fast. Thanks for a great recipe!
I made this and honey lime fruit salad for dinner. My 6th grader is having a hard time adjusting to middle school. I knew he would love this. He said that even when he’s having a hard day, he knows he can look forward to a good dinner. Thanks for all the great recipes. I’m not a crafty mom, but part of the way my family knows I love them is through the meals I prepare. Thanks for being behind quite a few of them.
Ah, Kari, I know the highs and lows of a 6th grader adjusting to middle school. It’s hard on the ol’ mom heart. Good luck to the both of you! I’m glad this meal was a hit. 🙂
Perfect summer meal for the entire family! I used leftover chicken in quesadillas the following night. Thanks!
I am a bonafide foodie. This is one of the best tasting things I have had in my mouth in a long time. I actually prefer it cold!!! Perfect picnic food or take to work lunch. The burst of lemon from the sauce is great. I am imagining all the thing that I make now with this sauce on it. Thanks!!!
This was amazing! We absolutely loved it. I made it with the homemade flatbread and everything exactly like you did. I will definitely make it again. What a perfect summer meal. Thank you!
Made this for dinner and it was a total hit! My kids were thanking me for dinner which has never happened before. I made your homemade flatbread to go with it (although it didn’t turn out very thin and flat) and it was so delicious! I just had leftovers in a tortilla and it was great.
This was so, so amazing! My hubby and I both ate ourselves sick 🙂 we live in Phoenix so I chose to use a slow cooker instead of standing in front of a grill in 115 heat and it worked great! Just threw frozen chicken breasts in, covered it with the marinade and cooked on low for about 6 hrs. Perfection! Also, I wanted to drink that garlic sauce- YUM!! We ate these with a fantastic Greek salad and it was all amazing!’
Great idea on the slow cooker, Bonnie!
What? Why didn’t I think of that!! Crock pot next time for sure 😉
Are we allowed to drink the sauce wth a straw, or no? just made these for dinner, and they were divine! thanks Mel:)
Haha, yes! Totally acceptable. 🙂
These were delicious!! And I even made the flatbed from scratch!
Thanks for another fabulous recipe Mel!!!
Ohh my goodness! Mel! I’ve made so so so many of your recipes over the last few years (and loved them ALL) but this was, dare I say, the best thing I’ve ever eaten in my life. I don’t have adequate words to express how delicious it was. It reminded me of what I used to get a small Greek restaurant, almost weekly, where I used to live except it was better! Thank you for this divine recipe! I’m only sad there were no leftovers!
I love this because I agree that while this meal is SO simple, the combination of flavors is like my favorite thing in the history of ever!
Yes! The history of ever! Since we had no leftovers last night, I bought more chicken today and I’m about to make it again. But I don’t think I’ll share..
We had these last night and they were SO good! A great summer supper thanks Mel
Delicious! My entire family LOVED this.
Perfect timing for me on this recipe: I’ve been thinking about trying to make falafel for my family and wondering what kind of sauce to put on it. Came over to your site to see if you had a falafel recipe and saw this recipe and I think the sauce would be great on falafel! P.S. Do you have any experience making falafel?
Hi Theresa! I’ve made falafel a time or two but it’s not been anything amazing. I think it’s because I’m trying to bake it instead of fry it (but fried is so much better!).
Thanks for this! Having friends for dinner tomorrow and was sick of all my standard summer meals. Hopped on your blog and now I know what to make!
This recipe came at the perfect time! Made it last night and my hubby went on and on about how much he enjoyed it! Thank you!!
I made this yesterday for dinner and it truly was the perfect summer dinner. Husband and kids and I all loved it. I didn’t have time to make or buy flatbread so we just used the Costco bake at home flour tortillas which worked great. Also I added sliced cucumbers along with the tomatoes on top and it was a delicious addition. My 9 year old twins and 7 year old all had seconds and asked for thirds. Thank you for saving dinner for us yesterday, Mel!
This looks like the perfect summer meal! And that exercise video link you shared…there are no words!!
This looks delicious! I will report back after dinner tomorrow. 😉
The recipe says 4-5 flatbread for 2# of chicken. Is that correct? It seems like a lot of chicken for only 4-5 servings. Maybe I’m reading it wrong?
Hey Rebecca, you are reading it right; the flatbread should be 4-6. I’ll change that. 🙂
These wraps look super yummy! We actually have leftover lemon chicken in the fridge right now, so this would be a yummy way to use that up! The sauce sounds delicious!

Oh Mel, you have me drooling all over my keyboard and it’s only 6:07 in the morning. These sound wonderful, and EASY. YUM
Oh, this looks like a fantastic quick lunch! That garlic sauce sounds so perfect – I love that you included greek yogurt – so good! I’m thinking this sauce would be so delicious on tons of wraps and goodies 🙂
