Recipes the World Forgot
Today, I’m checking in with one of my favorite series: Recipes the World Forgot!
If you’re new here, this quick and simple series is dedicated to some of the recipes that have been on my site a long time (like, ten years or more!).
While they may have been overlooked by newer, shinier recipes in more recent years, they definitely deserve another chance in the spotlight.
All of the recipes I’m highlighting today are HUGE tried-and-true favorites of ours.
If you haven’t made them, don’t waste another second! I’d love to know if any of these are favorites of yours already!

The sugar cookies are definitely NOT a recipe that my house has forgotten! It is my favorite and go-to sugar cookie recipe.
Love your blog! I make 8-9 dzn. frosted sugar cookies every Christmas to give away basically just like these and the PB sheet cake is a standard dessert for our church dinners, yum! Thank you for all the great recipes.
Happy Fall 🙂
The coconut cashew granola is a staple in our house!
I am personally a spaghetti hater…but spaghetti pie, oh my! I make it any time my kids request spaghetti because it’s 1000x better than the regular thing. I can’t wait to try those two caramel numbers!
More than half of this list has been in my regular rotation for YEARS. Love love love ❤️
Mel, I love these posts you do that remind us of past recipes…and everyone’s comments as well! We love the caramel pear crisp…such a perfect fall dessert. I’ve put spaghetti pie on the menu for this week to try for the first time. I think I will serve it with Caesar salad. Plus I’m going to try those pumpkin chocolate chip cookies….we’re doing some remodeling and I always like to put out snacks for the crew. These sound perfect to serve this week!
Thank you, Gail!
The granola got me a compliment from my dad once which is a big deal. It’s my go to along with the almond vanilla granola. Love the spaghetti pie. I make it often. And…the pear crisp is one of the best desserts ever!! Lots of good ones on this list.
Love hearing which ones of these you guys have made and loved!
Oh man, I made the pear crisp YEARS ago and had forgotten all about it! It was amazing and I need to make it again this year! And your slow cooker lasagna is my go-to…we love it!
That pear crisp is a hidden gem!
Oh man, definitely wanting to make ALL the things… guess I’ll have to meal plan tonight.
Hope you find some winners!

Trying out the gnocchi soup next week as a hunting homecoming dinner for my hubby
Thanks, Jenelle!! I think that sounds like a perfect welcome home dinner after hunting! You are a nice wife. I usually make my husband eat all the leftover granola bars.
Hi Mel,
I just wanted to pop in here again and say (again) how very much I love your recipes! That is such an understatement actually! I rely on them time after time, both the ones I make over and over, and the new ones you post when I want to shake up my menus a bit. You’re the best!
Thank you so much, Joann! Comments like that are seriously what keeps me going. I appreciate it so much.
I make the slow cooker white chicken chili. All. The. Time.
One of my go to soup recipes that my family loves!
Glad you love that one, Wendi!
Those sugar cookies are the best!! I read this post this morning and had to make that chicken gnocchi soup for lunch! Delish!
You are so right Kelsey, the soup is something else again, sooooo good!
Yummy lunch, Kelsey!
Booyah, I love these kinds of posts! It’s amazing how many incredible recipes you have.
Thanks, Carmen!
These are not recipes that I’ve forgotten! I always have a batch of those cut out cookies in my freezer and the gnocchi soup, spaghetti pie and crockpot lasagna are staples during the cold months.
You’re amazing, Anne! Glad so many of these are favorites of yours!
I love these posts; Thanks for the flashbacks! Going to have to try a couple of these soon.
They are actually great posts for me to put together because it reminds me of all the recipes that I take for granted!
I just made spaghetti pie this week! I hadn’t made it in a long time, but it was a total hit! Several of the others are ones I’ve made and loved, too.
I love hearing that, Megan – thank you!
I love your White Bean Chicken Chili and your Slow Cooker Lasagna so much!! Although I like to throw in some Italian sausage into that lasagna too. Can’t wait to try some of these others—like that Caramel Pear Crisp. Thx Mel! ❤️
PLEASE MAKE THE CARAMEL PEAR CRISP. Sorry to shout, but I really want everyone to make it. Haha.
I love these post.
Thanks, Linda!
I love your sugar cookie recipe! But that’s the only one on the post I’ve made. And I have made allot of recipes from your blog! The caramel apple bundt cake sounds awesome
It’s a show stopper of a cake for sure, Robyn!
The Chicken Gnocchi Soup has been my oldest daughter’s favorite soup recipe for years. I just call it Ruby’s Soup now. She begs me to make it in the summer and I Just Can’t. But we’re finally getting cooler weather this week and I have it on the menu for Monday. Excited to try out some of these other recipes!
I love thinking of it as “Ruby’s Soup” – that’s awesome!
I made the gnocchi soup recently. It’s my son’s favorite soup.
He has good taste! 🙂
I love these ‘recipes the world forgot’ posts! The pumpkin cookies and caramel apple Bundt cake I’ve made very recently and the gnocchi soup is already on my meal plan for the next week! Feeling like I made good choices
Haha, yes, VERY good choices! 🙂
Hi Mel! Spaghetti pie is a huge family favorite! Thank you for introducing this recipe to our family❤️
Thanks, Amy!
I have tried several of these and I was surprised I had never even heard of the caramel apple bundt cake, it looks yummy!! We love the cashew granola. But my favorite of these recipes and honestly on my top 10 of the many many recipes I make from your site is the peanut butter sheet cake. Seriously love that cake SO much!! I find excuses to make it several times a year, my son has even requested it for his birthday cake. My mouth is watering thinking of that cake. Yum!
I’m glad you love that cake, Misty! I don’t think it gets the attention it deserves. For a non-chocolate cake, it is pretty darn fabulous! 🙂
These posts are always some of my absolute favorite!! Thanks! I was going to work on my weekly menu today, and now I have it! That granola is one of my very favorite and I also love the gnocchi chicken soup and the apple bundt cake is amazing! Looking forward to trying the others! Thanks Mel! You are a rock star!
Thanks, Jen! I really want everyone to make that caramel pear crisp. It is SO SO good.
I used to make that slow cooker lasagna on our temple trips when we lived in Eastern Europe! Since it took us several hours (and crossing a country border) to get to the temple, we would go and stay in temple housing for several days at a time. I didn’t want to spend a long time cooking in an unfamiliar (and minimally stocked) kitchen for our family of 7—so I would prep menus and purchase groceries before we went. I learned to take along my slow cooker and Instant pot so we could spend the most time possible in the temple. That lasagna was so easy to prep beforehand and put together quickly on a lunch break. I love how those tender times are so connected to the food we ate while there.
That’s amazing, Amanda! I agree, some of my most wonderful and also bittersweet memories are connected to food. I love that you shared this – thank you!
Spaghetti Pie is the only recipe from this list that I’ve already made, but I can attest that ist is absolutely delicious! Definitely one of our family favorites! Cheesy, saucy, comforting perfection!
I’m glad you like that one, Natalie!
Best pumpkin chocolate chip cookie recipe that exists, the slow cooker lasagna is a favorite – just made it in the last couple of weeks, amazing sugar cookie recipe for sure!! The smashed potatoes are an all time favorite and the white chicken chili is a regular all fall and winter, actually we wouldn’t be surviving at my house without your never ending resources of amazing recipes!! I love this series of “the world forgot”. It is always a great reminder of some forgotten favorites I need to be making again—- I’m off to the kitchen to whip up some of these long time faves!! Thanks Mel 🙂
You are the sweetest, Helen! Always love hearing what recipes you and your family loves.
I’ve made the cheesy garlic and bacon smashed potatoes twice recently! I like to boil the potatoes in the InstantPot. They’re so good. I also love those pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. But I’m going to have to check out some of the rest!
I agree, using the IP for the potatoes makes them so easy!
The spaghetti pie is a regular for us! I saved several others on this post to my Prepare account for later. I recommend your blog to so many people for your great recipes…you’re my regular go to for dinner ideas!
I won 2nd place at our chili cook off with your white chicken chili recipe! Word on the street was it was supposed to be first but some voters thought first needed to be a red chili
I’m definitely making those sugar cookies next!
Haha…people and their strong chili opinions!! 🙂
